ZoRO to observe 68th Anniversary of the UN

LAMKA, Oct 15: The Zo Re-unification Organisation (ZoRO), Northen Zone today said that it will organize a “One Day ZoRO Conference cum 68th Anniversary of the United Nations Day” with the theme of Salvation for the Zo People at Galngam Lentual, Moreh on October 24, 2013 under the aegis of ZoRO Northen Zone.


A press release of ZorRO said, renowned artistes from different places where the Zo people reside will present their numbers and it will be followed by cultural shows of various types of Zo (Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi) people. The ZoRO said, the organisation was formed in 1988 at Champhai, Mizoram, a border town with Myanmar by various leaders representing from Chin State of Myanmar, Chittagong Hill Tract of Bangladesh and India’s Northeast state of Mizoram and Manipur with the objective to strengthen cultural, social and political relationship among the Zomis, and the 3rd World Zomi Convention will be attended by the leaders from Manipur, Mizoram, Chittagong Hills Tract of Bangladesh, and Myanmar. Since 2000 AD ZoRO has been invited and participated in various sessions of the United Nations working Groups on Indigenous Peoples (UNWIGIP) and in 2004 ZoRO was recognized as a member in United Nation Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issue (UNPFII), it said. The ZoRO said, the organization stands for restoration of the fundamental rights of the Zomis which have been deprived by the tripartite divisions of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh and that should be restored by way of re-unification among the Zo peoples.
